Many of the adaptations available for dyslexia have been shown to be effective for some pupils and entirely counterproductive for others so it's necessary to spend a little time tweaking and refining the options in use. It can be very nuanced: the open dyslexia font, for example, has been shown to slow down dyslexic readers but they make less mistakes with it.

Optional adaptations for dyslexia, which can be used in combination, include:

• Software colour filters
• Large font
• Increased letter spacing
• 
• Colour phonics and underline 6
• Differentiate appearance for place value (eg 123 ).
